Light It Up Blue is a global campaign conducted by the US organization Autism Speaks since 2011. In Poland, it is has been promoted by the SYNAPSIS Foundation* on the initiative of parents with autistic children. It is designed to express solidarity with individuals affected by autism through illuminating buildings in blue. The event will be held on 2 April, which is the World Autism Awareness Day.
Blue illuminations will begin celebrations of the Autism Awareness Month in which non-governmental organizations, state and local bodies, businesses and informal groups engage in activities to raise awareness of autism, a disorder that is estimated to affect 1 in every 150 children in Poland. The UN has classified autism as a major health issue in the world alongside cancer, diabetes and AIDS.
Łukasz Kościuczuk, SYNAPSIS Foundation, said: “We encourage the real estate sector to celebrate the Autism Awareness Month in three ways: SHINE – light up buildings in blue as part of the campaign ‘Light It Up Blue’, EDUCATE – organize a workshop with an expert from the SYNAPSIS Foundation for your fellow employees, and SUPPORT – make a donation for the diagnosis and therapy of people affected by autism.”
In 2016, over 100 buildings were lit up in blue across Poland. This year’s campaign has already been joined by 21 real estate companies as well as building tenants.
